The 23rd annual Courts 50-Mile Road Race event, to be held in Berbice, follows hard on the proverbial heels of a major one of its kind which was only recently held there, as cycling continues to break new barriers in the Ancient County.
Cyclists from across Guyana will be battling for lucrative prizes in this race, thus the Berbice roadways will be transformed into an intense battleground, because determined cyclists vying for supremacy and concomitant bragging rights will be confronting each other head-on in this best-of-the-best clash of athletes.
Organised by Flying Ace Cycling Coach Randolph Roberts, this race commences at 9:00h before the Courts New Amsterdam branch, and proceeds to the Nand Persaud rice milling operations at #36 Village Corentyne before returning to the point of origin for the finish.
An assistant manager of the furniture giant Courts will start this race, and the first eight Open cyclists to cross the finish line would be awarded prizes, as would the first three juniors/juveniles and the first three veterans. Eight sprint prizes will be up for grabs in this race, and it is anticipated to be a cracking event.
On Monday, February 24, the Annual Burnham Memorial Cycle Race, which this year will be run as a two-stage race, would be held. The First Stage will start at 7:00h in Linden and proceed to Homestretch Avenue in Georgetown for the finish. The Second Stage will start at 2pm at Homestretch Avenue, and proceed to Belfield, ECD before returning to Homestretch Avenue for the finish.
Mr. Howard of Flying Stars Cycle Club is pleased to have the sponsors of this event show their commitment to the sport.
Representatives of the Burnham Foundation will be on hand to witness the riders in action and later assist in the distribution of prizes.
