Major ganja busts made during Police river patrol

In multiple raids, Police ranks from Mackenzie, Aroaima, and Kwakwani Police Stations in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) and Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD), conducted operations resulting in the discovery of a substantial amount of cannabis.
The first bust occurred on Friday around 15:00h, when Police ranks embarked on a river patrol between Kwakwani Water Front and Wiruni Creek, Berbice River.

During their patrol, an alert was raised when a man was spotted fleeing an incomplete wooden house on the western bank of Wiruni Creek. Despite a pursuit, the suspect managed to evade capture. Upon inspection of the premises, law enforcement discovered a quantity of cannabis leaves, seeds, and stems strewn across the floor, with a portion in a large black plastic bag.
Additionally, an 8-horsepower Mercury outboard engine was found at the scene. The suspected cannabis, weighing 43 lbs (equivalent to 19,504 grams), was seized and taken to the Mackenzie Police Station. The engine was lodged at the Kwakwani Police Station.

In a separate operation, officers apprehended a 27-year-old shop owner in Ann’s Grove, ECD, following a tip-off.
A search of the shop’s premises led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing transparent zip-lock bags filled with cannabis leaves, seeds, and stems, totalling 102.7 grams. The shop’s owner and the confiscated narcotics were promptly escorted to the Cove and John Police Station.
He remains in custody as the investigation continues. (G9)
