Extensive repair works have commenced on an extremely damaged section of Casaurina Drive at Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
The project is being executed through the Public Infrastructure Ministry and is being done by Linden-based contracting company, Orin Supreme Enterprises Inc.
The project will see a complete overhaul of the damaged section of the roadway, including drainage works. The patch of road was recently listed amongst those slated for emergency road repairs by regional officials, following assessments of major road networks in the Linden community.
This particular section of road, which is situated in the vicinity of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Linden Electricity company Inc (LECI), had suffered massive erosion and usually floods during inclement weather conditions.
This was considered dangerous by motorists since there is also a steep turn at the major corner. This was coupled with large potholes as a result of poor drainage in the vicinity.
Prior to the commencement of the project, Region 10 Vice Chairman Douglas Gittens had also made calls for major repair and drainage works to be executed in the area. Gittens had also indicated that a culvert had collapsed underneath the section of road which had been one of the main causes of flooding in the vicinity. He had also expressed concerns that the drainage system in the area had become nonexistent due to vegetation buildup.
“They will put several tubes so that the water can run off…they will resurface it (the section of the road) and then it should be back in driving order. It’s a complete overhaul of that stretch of road,” Gittens recently told this publication, as he gave a description of the repairs which are underway.
