Hours after consuming a quantity of carbon tablets, a male nursing student succumbed while receiving medical attention at the Linden Hospital Complex, in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
The dead man has been identified as 22-year-old Heathecliffe Allistare Bobbsemple, also called “Sonny”, of Lot 2399 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Based on reports received, the now dead young man consumed the tablets at his home at about 09:30h on Wednesday and took his last breath at about 18:10h. Bobbsemple reportedly suffered from mental illness and was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

and this was reported to his mother, Tracy Bobbsemple. On Tuesday last, the young man claimed that he saw rats running in the house and requested that his mother purchase carbon tablets but she did not pay him much attention.
However, on the morning of the incident, the now dead nursing student left the house and returned home shortly after. Soon after, a brother saw him drinking the tablets and called his mother who was on her way to the mining town from Georgetown.
The young man started to vomit and it was this time, he confessed to drinking the poisonous pills. He was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was admitted a patient in an unstable condition.
The doctor reportedly administered treatment to stabilise him but he eventually succumbed. His body is at the Wismar Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
When contacted, the aggrieved mother told <<<<<Guyana Times>>>>> that the now dead man was wrongfully implicated in a robbery last month, resulting in her home being searched by the Police but none of the stolen items were found.
Nevertheless, she said her son was placed in the lockups and the matter was later dropped after no evidence was found against him. Shortly after, the young man was rearrested and charged for robbery.
The woman, who works in Georgetown, related that after she leant that her son was charged for the robbery, she travelled to Linden and paid his bail. She said during this time, the now dead young man was suffering from a “mental condition”.
“Even the sister from the nursing school tell them that this boy suffering from a lil mental condition because he taking treatment from the psychiatric clinic… like Sonny was going through a depression state…,” she said.
Bobbsemple related that her son was due to return to court on Thursday and would have obtained a lawyer through the Legal Aid Clinic to represent him.
One day before the court proceedings, she stated “I call Sonny, I say ‘Sonny where you deh? Put on your clothes and come down the road to reach me’. Then he say, ‘I drink this three carbon tablets… He say, ‘mommy I too weak to come'”, the woman related in tears. He passed away several hours later.
