– Barnwell to light up DCC
Compact and accomplished veteran batsman Ramo Malone will replace Travis Dowlin in the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) team for their feature T20 clash against G-Square Cavaliers this evening at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Queenstown Georgetown.
Dowlin, the former international cricketer was forced to withdraw following another pressing engagement. Malone who has been enjoying a good run of form on the local softball circuit is seemed as the perfect replacement.
The match was originally scheduled for last Saturday evening but was postponed due to persistent rain that left the venue water logged. The more established hardball cricket team, G-Square Cavaliers from Wakenaam will be looking to their experience at this level to take them through while Floodlights will use home advantage and Christopher Barnwell as their trump.
Barnwell who wore West Indies colours and is currently plying his trade at the first class level across all formats is in line for a debut for the softball masters champions. Captain of the Floodlights team will be joined on the field by his 10 year old son Romeo who plays his club cricket also at DCC. The young off spinner has been among the wickets in similar encounters and will once again be a threat for the opposition.
Admission is free to this friendly encounter which is slated to be a 20 overs a-side affair from 18:00h. The host, GFSCA is promising musical entertainment all evening while food and drink will be on sale.
