Malta donates defibrillator to St John’s Association
The Ambassador of Malta to Guyana, Roland de Rosiere handed over a defibrillator to the St John’s Association of Guyana to aid in its work as first responders to disasters and medical emergencies.
Following a number of visits in the past year, Ambassador de Rosiere returned once again, but this time with a gift for his hosts, St John’s Association, more so the Ambulance Brigade.
The automated portable defibrillator is to be used during voluntary attachments across the country.
Speaking at the handing over hosted at St John’s headquarters was Vibert Parvatan, the Association’s Chairman.
In highlighting the significance of this donation, Parvatan explained the use of the medical equipment.

“It’s automated and it’s so designed that having connected, the voice will tell you what exactly to do, what not to do and what are the difficulties. It will give electrical shocks and take you along aiming at keeping the heart going, keeping the person alive, until he or she may get to an institution.”
With the importance of the equipment established, the Chairman thanked the Sovereign Order of Malta for the life-saving donation.
The Ambassador, in addressing the gathering at the presentation, indicated that defibrillators were essential in the work of first responders.
The Maltese official noted that such equipment should be available at all public offices and places that attract large crowds.
Moreover, de Rosiere applauded the work of the local St John’s Association, while pointing out the mission of the international organisation.
Adding to that, he emphasised the significance of volunteering at organisations such as St John and thereby called on young Guyanese to get involved in the work of the Association.
