Man admits to 2017 Christmas Day killing

Bevon Stephon Griffith, called “Kevin” and “Spoony”, a mason, 24, formerly of Pike Street Kitty, Georgetown, will be sentenced on November 11 for the 2017 Christmas Day killing of Celwyn Allen which occurred at C Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Initially indicted for the capital offence of murder, Griffith appeared before Justice Jo Ann Barlow at the High Court in Demerara on Monday and pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.
Griffith was charged with the killing on December 29, 2017, and remanded to prison.
A Police report said that Allen, 35, of Cummings Park, E Field Sophia, reportedly “interfered” with a friend of Griffith who reportedly rebuked him for doing so. As such, Griffith allegedly confronted Allen whom he stabbed several times with a knife before making good his escape.

The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by a Police patrol but was pronounced dead on arrival. A Police report said that Griffith admitted to the crime at the time of his arrest. It was reported that Allen’s girlfriend was also injured during the attack. (G1)
