A 55-year-old fisherman of Marihaba, Village, Moruca, North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini) is now in Police custody after he allegedly chopped his drunken son-in-law to the face for behaving disorderly.
Police in a statement said the incident occurred on Christmas Day at the aforementioned village. According to the Police, 29-year-old Clive Benn left his father-in-law’s home at around 16:00h and went to a queh-queh celebration, where he consumed alcohol.
At about 21:00h, the young man returned home and started behaving in a disorderly manner. His father-in-law tried to speak with him, but he became annoyed, armed himself with two knives, and approached his father-in-law.
In retaliation, the elderly man allegedly grabbed a cutlass that was nearby and dealt his son-in-law a chop to the face.
After he was chopped, Benn ran away and was taken to the Waramuri Health Centre by public-spirited citizens. He was seen by a doctor and discharged. His father-in-law was contacted, told of the allegation, and arrested. Police have said investigations are ongoing.
