Man arrested after cannabis found during Region 7 mobile patrol

A 43-year-old male vendor from Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was arrested on Monday after nearly 200 grams (g) of suspected cannabis were discovered in his possession at Barakat Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.
The discovery occurred around 17:00h when ranks on mobile patrol spotted the man suspiciously riding a motorcycle. Officers intercepted him and searched his person and belongings.

A haversack carried by the rider was found to contain a bulky transparent parcel, which held two smaller parcels with leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The suspect was taken to the Itaballi Police Checkpoint, where the substance was weighed in his presence and totalled 196.55 g. The suspected cannabis was lodged, and the man was escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where he remains in custody as investigations continue.
Just a week ago, Police in Regional Division 8 (Potaro-Siparuni) were investigating the discovery of a quantity of cannabis during an operation conducted at the Mahdia Arcade.
During the exercise, ranks conducting searches in the area found a black plastic bag, concealed under garbage and zinc in an abandoned area. Inside the plastic bag was a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The cannabis was taken to the Mahdia Police Station, where it was weighed and amounted to 90 g. It was processed and lodged.
No arrests were made.
