A 37-year-old Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice resident is now in Police custody after he was found with 405 grams of cannabis sativa.
The arrest was made about 13:20h on Monday at Adelphi Village, East Canje.
Reports are that acting on information received, a party of Policemen went to an abandoned house at Adelphi Village. Upon the ranks’ arrival, the suspect was seen running into a clump of bushes behind an abandoned house.
The cannabis that was found by Police
A search was conducted in the bushes where the suspect was found standing, and a bulky parcel wrapped with yellow scotch tape – which was later found to contain a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis – was found.
The parcel was brought to his attention and he was told of the offence committed, but denied knowledge of the parcel. He was nonetheless arrested.
The cannabis was taken to Central Police Station, where it was weighed in the suspect’s presence, amounting to 405 grams of cannabis.
The suspect is still in custody pending investigations. (G9)
