Jailed: Fazil Khalil

Police said that the 50-year-old woman was in her home at Chiney Road, Moblissa Highway, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), and as she opened the door to go outside to do laundry, she was confronted by Khalil, who was armed with a knife. According to Police, he grabbed the woman by the neck while pointing the knife at her face, and said, “I want the money, or I will kill you.” The victim told the Police that she became fearful for her life, and handed over her money to Khalil, who then pulled off her rings from her fingers.

The items that were stolen from the businesswoman

The man then began demanding more money, but when she insisted that was all she had, he snatched her phone while she managed to run out of the yard and raise an alarm. The Police were summoned, but by then, Khalil had already escaped. Police then set up a roadblock and the fleeing man was apprehended in a hire car. A search was conducted and the stolen items were found in his possession, along with $2900. The shopkeeper later identified the items as her property. (F1)
