Man charged for assaulting Police Officer

A man from Timehri, on the East Bank of Demerara, was before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday charged with assaulting a Police Officer.

Winston Long denied the charge read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore which alleged that on November 26, 2016, at High Street, Georgetown, he assaulted Constable Derwayne Eastman.

He also denied behaving disorderly at the Brickdam Police Station on the same day.

However, he told the court that he was being bullied by Police Officers and was dealt a slap to which he began to speak in a loud manner.

Based on this explanation, a guilty plea was entered by Magistrate Azore.

The prosecution had no objections to bail being granted to the defendant and this was granted in the sum of $75,000.

Long is scheduled to return to court on June 28.
