The man accused of raping and killing a pensioner of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was sent back to jail on Wednesday, after he made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Jaipaul Jitlall, 47, of Anna Catherina, WCD, was not required to plea to the indictable charge which alleged that on October 2, 2016, he murdered Bibi Keneiz.
The 80-year-old woman’s body was found in a hammock in her zinc shack with multiple stab wounds to her chest.
Upon investigation, detectives determined that the woman was raped then killed. This conclusion was made after investigators examined the condition in which the woman’s body was found.
She was also found gagged by a piece of cloth that was stuffed in her mouth.
In a release from the Police on December 31, 2016, the suspect had reportedly confessed to the heinous crime. The matter was adjourned to January 10 and Jitlall will reappear at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
