Man charged for Mackenzie home invasion

Thirty-year-old Kelcie Murray of Watooka Hill, Linden, who was on September 24 arrested at the Linden Hospital Complex with a gunshot wound was on Friday remanded to prison for allegedly invading a home at Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10, and robbing the occupants.

Charged: Kelcie Murray

Murray appeared virtually before Magistrate Annette Singh, and was slapped a total of three charges which included two counts of robbery under arms and one count of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.
Reports are on September 24, Murray, along with an accomplice, armed themselves with a gun and a crowbar and invaded the home of Dexter Lewis, a labourer, and Derron James, 21, located at Fair Rust Extension, Mackenzie. They were robbed of $114,000 in cash.
Murray pleaded not guilty to the charges and is expected to return to court on October 28, 2020.
On the night of the robbery, one of the victims told investigators that he heard sounds of someone knocking on their door, and woke up from his sleep. Upon investigating, he came face to face with the two suspects, one armed with a gun and the other with a crowbar.
The bandit with the gun held him at gunpoint while the other, who was armed with a crowbar, searched for the other occupant of the house. They started demanding money, and in fear, the occupants handed over $114,000 in cash, and their cell phones.
Following the robbery, they then discharged a round in the air before fleeing the scene.
Shortly after, Murray showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper thigh. It was observed by officials that he matched the description of one of the suspects and was subsequently placed under Police guard at the hospital.
Police were later able to locate the firearm used in the robbery, which Murray reportedly admitted he owned.
Murray’s file was then sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who advised that he should be charged for the crime.
