After evading the Police for five years, a man who is accused of causing the death of a boat captain in a road accident was remanded to prison on Monday. Delon Moore was brought before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court where a charge for causing death by dangerous driving was read to him.
It is alleged that on August 9, 2016, he allegedly drove motor car PTT 9233 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of 32-year-old Adrian Gomez, a father of two, of Adventure, Corentyne, Berbice. Moore, who was not required to plead to the indictable charge, was remanded to prison until January 14, 2022.
Moore was arrested last Sunday by ranks of the Springlands Police Station for a traffic offence and while being processed, ranks discovered that he was wanted for the 2016 fatal accident.
According to reports, Gomez was a passenger in the car being driven by Moore. The car was involved in an accident along the Chester Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB). Gomez had been hospitalised for some two months after the accident.
The man, who suffered severe skull injuries, died on December 17, 2016. After the accident, Moore had been evading Police ranks.
Meanwhile, the now dead man’s wife, Susannah Hickman told Guyana Times that life has been extremely hard since the passing of her husband.
“Is so long, me thought the Police dem na do nothing an de matta na go tek up an leff down,” she said in her native Corentyne accent.
According to Hickman, recently she was discussing the issue with her parents who live next door to her at Adventure. She said she was of the opinion that the Police have no interest in perusing the matter.
The woman noted that she had tried reaching out to Moore’s father since the suspect went into hiding following the death of her husband. She explained that she and her parents visited Moore’s home and they were chased and threatened if they returned.
However, she is pleased that the man is finally being made to face the consequences of his actions.
