Man confesses to torturing, killing hotel owner, worker
No 63 Beach double murder
…Police on hunt for accomplice
A resident of Number 65 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), has confessed to the torturing and killing of the owner of the Sun Splash Beach Resort and his handyman while implicating another man.
The confession was made over the weekend and ranks of the Major Crimes Unit are on the hunt for the accomplice.
On December 27, 2019, the badly decomposed bodies of 59-year-old Harry Prashad, a handyman of Number 65 Village, Corentyne, and 68-year old Vivekanand Brijbassi were discovered in the balcony of Sun Splash Beach Resort located on the Number 63 Beach.
Narpatty was found lying on the back with two toes severed – one was next to his body and the other was not located.
Prashad was found about fifteen feet away with both hands tied to a post on the balcony, one foot was also tied to the post and was severed at the ankle. Both bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition with maggots feasting.
Meanwhile, a source close to the investigation revealed that approval was granted by the High Court to further detain the self-confessed murderer. The source noted that it was related that the man in custody explained that he and his accomplice attacked and beat Brijbassi in the lower flat of the resort. He detailed that the injured man was taken to the balcony where Prasad was sitting.
Once there, both men were tortured and left to die. The source also stated that they are following all major leads with respect to the double murder and more so, they are on the hunt for the accomplice who is also from No 65 Village.
It was reported that there was a high level of violence with the dismembering of some parts of the body.
Commander Calvin Brutus had stated that the police are aware that there is an ongoing dispute for the property between the deceased and other family members.
