Man dies 1 week after being chopped, stabbed

One week after he was chopped to his head and arm after he intervened in an argument between a woman and another man, 36-year-old Keno Griffith of Old Kara Kara, Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), has succumbed to his injuries.

He reportedly died while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital in the wee hours of Monday.
It was reported that the suspect, 26-year-old Rochine Maison, and a female resident had a misunderstanding during which the man allegedly squeezed her breast. In retaliation, the woman spat on the suspect and as such, he got angry and threw a bucket of water on her.
Upon seeing the commotion, Griffith went to the woman’s assistance, thus leading to a heated argument between the now dead man and Maison. The argument, however, turned physical and it was at that time, the suspect armed himself with a cutlass and dealt Griffith one chop to his arm and one to his head.
He was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was examined, treated and admitted a patient in a stable condition. Meanwhile, after committing the act, the suspect turned up at the Linden Police Station to report the matter and instead, he was arrested.
Maison was later slapped with an attempted murder charge. Now that Griffith has passed, the case file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
