Man dies after pinned under tractor at Mahaica

A young man died on Saturday after a tractor toppled and pinned him while he was working in the backlands at Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The man has been identified as Avinash Persaud (only information received).
Full details surrounding the incident are sketchy. But according to information gathered by this publication, Persaud was working in the backlands when he reportedly encountered difficulties with the tractor which suddenly toppled and pinned him in a swampy area.
Persons nearby rushed to Persaud’s assistance.
After being removed from under the tractor, an unconscious Persaud was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Only a few months back, a 20-year-old rice farmer, Samuel Singh of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) died in a similar manner. He was working on a rice field at Caracas, Vryheid Village, West Canje, Berbice, when the tractor toppled and pinned him.
Singh was a licensed heavy-duty machine operator.
