Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a 35-year-old man, who allegedly drowned in a trench at Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Monday.
Dead is Hillary Shepeard, an unemployed man, who is also a seizure patient of Lot 87 Prince Williams Street.
Based on information received, Shepeard worked in the interior where he had an accident, after which he became a seizure patient.
An investigation revealed that about 09:30h, neighbours reported seeing a body floating face down in a trench along the western side of Prince William Street.
Public-spirited persons then retrieved the man’s body, along with a bicycle and a haversack, which were said to have belonged to him.
Police were summoned to the scene, where mud and water were found in the now-deceased man’s mouth and there was a cut on his chin from which blood had dripped. The body was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where doctors confirmed Shepeard’s death, by pronouncing him dead on arrival.
The body was then transferred to the Lyken Funeral Home to await a post-mortem.
