Man gets 12 months, teen granted bail for trafficking ecstasy

Two persons who were arrested with 164 grams of ecstasy by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) at Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, on January 3, 2026, were charged with trafficking in narcotics. Twenty-six-year-old Devon Grant and 19-year-old Lily Wills appeared before Magistrate Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, during which Grant pleaded guilty and Wills entered a not guilty plea. As a result, Grant was sentenced to 12 months of imprisonment and fined $30,000, while Wills was granted $100,000 bail and returned to court on January 9, 2026.

The matter further adjourned to February 2, 2026. CANU stated that the duo was arrested after several Ziplock bags containing ecstasy were found in the motorcar in which they were travelling in the vicinity of Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown. They were escorted to CANU Headquarters, where the illicit narcotic was weighed and amounted to 164 grams.
