Man in custody for traffic offence busted with ganja

A 27-year-old labourer of Albouystown, Georgetown, and Sixth Avenue, Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), who was in custody pending an investigation into a traffic offence, found himself in even hotter water when a quantity of ganja and cash was found in his hotel room.

Police stated that they, acting on intelligence received during an operation at Bartica on Wednesday, engaged the suspect who was in custody at the Bartica Police Station. As such, he was escorted to a hotel on First Avenue, Bartica, where a search was conducted on a room he was reportedly occupying.
During the search, a bulky plastic bag containing 16 small transparent plastic bags and one blue plastic bag with a quantity of cannabis was discovered. In addition, $184,000 in cash was also found.
The suspect was taken back to the Bartica Police Station, where the ganja was weighed and amounted to 762 grams. He remains in custody pending charges for the traffic offence as well as possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
