A Port Kaituma, North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini) man who was caught attempting to have sex with the corpse of a 56-year-old woman who had tested positive for COVID-19 has been jailed.

Fifty-year-old Leroy Chacon of Train Line, Port Kaituma appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court via zoom.
Chacon was charged with trespass with intent to commit a sexual offense, Act Chapter 8:03. He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on Tuesday.
On Saturday last, Chacon was observed by persons attempting to have sex with the 56-year-old woman’s corpse at the Port Kaituma Hospital mortuary. The woman, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died on September 21.
He was arrested and placed in quarantine under Police guard.
The woman’s body was stored at the Port Kaituma Mortuary when Chacon visited the mortuary at about 07:45h and attempted to perform sex on the body. (G9)
