Man jailed for possession of illegal gun, ammo

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly recently sentenced an East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, resident to spend the next two years in prison after he admitted to two firearm-related charges when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Alvin June also called “Gangster Ras” was slapped with the charges which alleged that on May 29, 2019, at East Ruimveldt, he had in his possession three live rounds of .40 calibre ammunition and a .40 Glock firearm without being the licensed firearm holder of same.
Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris informed the court that on the day in question, police ranks acting on information went to the convicted man’s home at the aforementioned location.
Upon arriving at June’s home, the ranks descended into the premises where they found him but in retaliation, he dropped a haversack which he had in his possession.
A search conducted on the said haversack unearthed the illegal weapon and ammunition.
Meanwhile, June in an explanation to the court stated that he only obtained the weapon to protect his family since he was attacked and shot in the past.
