An Albouystown, Georgetown youth was stabbed to death by his girlfriend’s cousin after her father reportedly expressed displeasure with their relationship.
Dead is Devon Xavier, a 20-year-old of La Penitence Street, Albouystown.
Reports are that Xavier was stabbed at about 21:30h on Saturday. According to Police, on Saturday evening Xavier visited his girlfriend at her A Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown home.
However, while the couple was conversing, they were approached by his girlfriend’s father and her cousin. The girl reportedly told Xavier that he had to leave because her relatives were not in favour of the relationship. She told Police that her father then instructed her to go inside the house but while she was heading in, she saw her cousin grab Xavier, take out a knife from the waist of his pants and deal him a stab to his right-side chest.
Police said that Xavier fell to the ground and the suspect then made good his escape.
An alarm was raised and EMTs responded. However, the 20-year-old was pronounced dead.
The body was taken to the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Police said the girlfriend’s father is currently in custody assisting with investigations. The suspect has not yet been apprehended. (G15)
