Man nabbed after throwing contraband into prison compound
Quick response by members of the Lusignan Prison led to the arrest of Joseph Fifee, a man who was attempting to smuggle contraband into the penitentiary.
Reports are that at about 16:05h on Saturday, Fifee reportedly threw a parcel into the prison’s compound which contained cigarettes and a cellular phone.

Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels informed the media that Fifee, who is from a village on the East Coast of Demerara, was previously remanded to prison for robbery but was released on bail just over two months ago. He will be processed by the police.
The items that were in the parcel
Two weeks ago, a 40-year-old labourer of Lusignan Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara, was arrested after he attempted to throw a bag containing cellular phones, 104 grams of cannabis and other items into the Lusignan Prison compound.
He was apprehended on the Lusignan Embankment and subsequently handed over to the police.
