Police ranks in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) have arrested a Georgetown resident after he was found in possession of a high-powered weapon and other suspicious items on Thursday afternoon.
The discovery was made during an intelligence-led operation, which saw ranks conducting a search on the car of the 52-year-old suspect.
According to Police reports, among the items seized during the operation were an unlicensed AR Rifle with magazine, a pair of handcuffs and one bulletproof vest.
The suspect, who resides on Church Street, Georgetown, is a licensed firearm holder but not for the type of weapon that was found in his possession. He is currently in Police custody and is assisting with investigations.
