The proprietor of a mining company in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni district (Region Seven), was on Tuesday arraigned before City Magistrate, Leron Daly and granted 0,000 bail after being incarcerated at the Camp Street Penitentiary for over just a month.
Twenty-eight-year-old Caesar Gonsalves was charged for the unlawful possession
of firearm and ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence and remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, after he entered a not guilty plea to both charges on January 14.
According to the Prosecution’s case, one .45 rifle and .99 ammunition were discovered, along with several amphetamine (commonly known as ecstasy) tablets during a Police raid conducted on January 12, 2017, at the accused’s Thorne Drive, Tucville, East La Penitence residence, leading to his arrest.
Defence Attorney, Patrice Henry successfully made an application for bail, arguing that the Prosecution’s file is in an incomplete state and not in their possession.
Police Prosecutor Kevin London made no move to object and Caesar was released on $350,000 bail.
The matter will continue on March 13, 2017, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
