Man on bail for unlawful wounding

Thirty-one-year-old Lawrence Gomes was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for unlawful wounding and released on 0,000 bail at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday.

The defendant, who hailed from Paramakatoi, in Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), had allegedly wounded the Virtual Complainant, Rowlinson Robin on January 29, 2017 in the said village causing him actual bodily harm. The prosecution told the court that on the day in question, the parties were involved in an argument stemming from a land dispute when Gomes inflicted injuries upon Robin.

The man was previously remanded to prison by Magistrate Leron Daly on February 2 when he first faced the courts.

Gomes was granted bail on Tuesday upon the condition that he does not come within 50 feet of the Virtual Complainant or witnesses until the completion of the trial.

The defendant will return to court on March 7, 2017 when the matter will proceed to trial.
