Man remanded for assaulting “social media-obsessed” wife

When 32-year-old Alberttown, Georgetown resident Joel Ceasar stood before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Wednesday to answer a charge of assault, he explained that his wife had driven him to such exasperation that he had lost all control and battered her. He, however, was remanded until October 31st.
The charge against the accused read that on October 21, 2017, at his Alberttown residence, he unlawfully assaulted his reputed spouse, a mother of one.
The defendant told the court that his wife is obsessed with Facebook, and nags whenever a female likes his photo, “especially if is a black girl”. He continued that the complainant, of East Indian descent, would spew racist comments whenever he spends time with his “black friends”. The court heard that the accused had to endure these utterly embarrassing and painful insults whenever she hurled them at him.
On the day in question, the situation had escalated to an extent that the couple was involved in an argument, during which the complainant scratched and slapped him, and he responded by hitting her.
“It’s getting overbearing…all I want is to see my child grow up”, he said while entering a not guilty plea.
Prosecutor Simone Payne indicated that the accused was previously convicted of an offence (of undisclosed nature) for which he had served two years in prison. Moreover, she said the accused poses a flight risk. The case continues on October 31, 2017.
“Burn in hell! He does nothing for the child!” the wife was overheard saying.
