Man remanded for nightclub murder

A suspect who allegedly knifed Sunil Singh to death during a row outside the Blue Martini Nightclub, Kitty, Georgetown, was on Friday slapped with a murder charge.

Sean Harris appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he wasstabbing remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan.

It is alleged that Harris, 29, on February 5, 2017, at De Abrue Street, Kitty, Georgetown, murdered Sunil Singh.

The Prosecution is contending that on the day of the incident, Singh was fatally stabbed in the premises of the said nightclub when he attempted to rescue an employee who was being attacked by three men.

The men reportedly attempted to enter the premises after closing hours, but were informed by the bartender that they cannot enter. This allegedly led to an argument. The Prosecution is contending that during the argument, the accused whipped out a knife stabbing the employee, which led to Singh intervening. Singh, in the process of assisting the employee, allegedly hit Harris, who turned around and reportedly stabbed him about his body.

Singh was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.The accused, who was unrepresented, told the court on Friday that he is a mason by profession and resides in Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown. The case will continue on March 20.
