Home News Man remanded on armed robbery, illegal possession of ammo and firearm charges
Thirty-year-old Charles Stoby of Hadfield Street, Georgetown on Thursday appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer to two charges relating to illegal possession of firearm and armed robbery.
The defendant denied the charges, the first of which alleges that on October 22, 2018, at Gordon Street Kitty, Georgetown, while being armed with the offensive weapon of a gun, he robbed Kester Johnson of a gold chain valued $130,000, among other items amounting to a total cost of $536,000.
The other charge alleges that the defendant, on November 5, 2018, at Alexander Street, Kitty, had two rounds of live ammunition in his possession along with a 9mm pistol without being the holder of a licence for same.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne, objecting to bail, cited the seriousness of the offences and stated that the gun was previously used in commission of a crime.
Without hesitation, the Chief Magistrate upheld the prosecution’s submission and remanded Stoby to prison. He is expected to make his next court appearance on November 23, 2018.
