Man robbed, shot by bicycle bandit at wake house

An East Bank Demerara man is now nursing a gunshot wound to his right leg after he was shot during a robbery on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred at about 21:00h at the Beterverwagting/Triumph area, East Coast Demerara.
The injured man has been identified as 62-year-old Allan Ramjit of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
It was reported that Ramjit had gone to attend a funeral at his in-law’s house and later that night, he was standing on the bridge outside the yard when the lone suspect approached on a bicycle.
The perpetrator whipped out a handgun and pointed it at Ramjit, ordering him to hand over his valuables. However, Ramjit resisted and the suspect discharge a round, hitting him to his right leg.
Upon being shot, the victim fell to the ground and the suspect then relieved him of two cellular phones before making good his escape on his pedal cycle.
The injured man was picked up by relatives and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were treated and sent away several hours later.
Meanwhile, the Police have since launched an investigation into the incident and are looking for the suspect. A spent shell was retrieved from the scene.
