Man shot with arrow over old grievance

A man who hails from Muritaro, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), is on the run after allegedly shooting a logger of the same village with an arrow and bow on Saturday.
Injured is 45-year-old Lloyd Charter. The incident occurred at about 16:30h. According to Police, the suspect and the victim have more than five-year-old grievances which stemmed from the suspect assaulting the victim’s wife. Police also revealed that the suspect usually hurled abusive and threatening remarks at the victim and his wife whenever he saw them.
According to Police, on New Year’s Day, Charter was paddling his boat along the Demerara River passing the suspect’s home when he heard someone paddling quickly behind him. He looked around and observed that it was the suspect who was encroaching upon him.
The victim continued paddling and immediately after he felt something strike him and his back began to burn. It turned out that an arrow had impaled his left side abdomen and a metal object was protruding at the front.
He looked around and saw the suspect with a bow in his hand and asked him why he shot him. The suspect did not reply but turned around his boat and paddled in the opposite direction and made good his escape. The victim then paddled to a nearby residence where he sought assistance and was then escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex with the pointed metal protruding through the left side of his back. He was immediately admitted a patient and underwent surgery. His condition is listed as stable. Police have since launched an investigation. (G9)
