Man slapped with attempted murder charge

Thirty-nine-year-old Hugh Junior of Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, who shot his friend after catching him at his girlfriend’s home, was slapped with an attempted murder charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Junior was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by Principle Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The court heard that on July 12, 2018, while in the vicinity of Breda Street, Werk-En-Rust, Georgetown, he discharged a loaded firearm at Charles Stoby with intent to murder him.
According the facts presented to the court, the defendant and the Virtual Complainant are known to each other and on the day in question, the defendant went to his girlfriend’s home where he saw his friend and his girlfriend in a compromising position.
Upon seeing same, the two friends got into a heated argument after which the defendant left the home.
The following day, as the Virtual Complainant was on a motorcycle in Breda Street, Junior, a father of three, discharged two round in his direction; hitting him once to the stomach.
The unconscious Stoby fell to the roadway and was picked up by public spirited persons and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted and underwent emergency surgery.
Further, the matter was reported and the defendant was arrested and charged with the present offence.
The man was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance on August 27.
