Man who jumped into Demerara River after seeing cops busted with ganja

A 29-year-old man of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was on Wednesday arrested after he was found to be in possession of 176 grams of cannabis while on the Craig Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The Police have said that at about 7:30h on Wednesday, ranks were on patrol duty in the vicinity of Craig Public Road when they observed a male – clad in a dark blue t-shirt and a pair of short, blue, damaged jeans – walking in the opposite direction and acting in a suspicious manner. He was reportedly carrying a black haversack on his back.

Police ranks stopped the man, intending to conducting a search on his person, but the man instead jumped into the Demerara River and hid himself among the bushes.
However, he was apprehended by the Police and was searched, but nothing was found in his possession.
Checks were then made in the area, and the Police discovered a yellow plastic bag containing the cannabis.
The young man was told of the allegation, arrested, and taken to the Grove Police Station, where the said cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 176 grams. He has been placed into custody pending charges, as investigations continue. (G10)
