Man who stole cigarettes, rum placed on $5000 bail

A 40-year-old man was on Thursday placed on bail in the sum of $5000 after appearing before Georgetown Magistrate Faith McGusty on a simple larceny charge.
Corwin McPherson pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on April 10, 2019 at North East La Penitence, Georgetown, he stole one cartoon of cigarettes and a bottle of rum from Matthew Bristol.
The unrepresented man told that court that he was willing to pay the VC for the items, and apologised for his action.
Police Prosecutor Ceon Blackman told the court that on the day in question, the defendant went to the VC’s stand, and upon realising that no one was there, collected the items and fled the scene. The matter was reported at the station, and after an investigation, the defendant was arrested and charged.
The prosecutor did not object to the defendant being placed on bail. Blackman will make his next court appearance on May 8.
