Mangra, Chang Yuen crowned champions

The GUMDAC annual Open Doubles Badminton Tournament concluded last Saturday at the National Gymnasium, Georgetown with some keenly contested duals on the court.
The tournament which is now in the fifth year saw events in the Open Men and Women Doubles and Mixed Doubles categories.
This tournament also marked the opening of the Guyana Badminton Association’s (GBA) season.

The final evening saw the intense matches in the finals of the Men Doubles where the youngsters Jonathan Mangra and Ronald Chang Yuen defeated seasoned senior players Marlon Chung and Darrell Carpenay in a thrilling three-game play-off.
In the first game Jonathan Mangra and Ronald Chang Yuen took the first game at 21-14 while Chung and Carpenay bounced back to take the second game 12-21 to set up the deciding match.
Youth then got the better of experience with the new champions taking the match 21-19.
Third place went to William Holder and Haymant Ramdhani who gained a walkover from Javid Rahaman and Ernesto Choo-A-Fat.
In the Mix Doubles Finals, Priyanna Ramdhani and Ronald Chang Yuen defeated Marlon Chung and Shivannie Persaud in straight sets: 21-19, 21-16.
Third Place went to Darrell Carpenay and Ayanna Wickham-Watson who defeated youngsters Akili Haynes and Jayde DaSilva: 22-20, 21-9.

Jonathan Mangra and Ronald Chang Yuen defeated William Holder and Haymant Ramdhani: 21-13, 21-9.
Mixed Doubles Semifinals 2:
Ronald Chang Yuen and Priyanna Ramdhani defeated Akili Haynes and Jayde DaSilva: 21-14, 21-10.
Marlon Chung and Shivannie Persaud defeated Darrell Carpenay and Ayanna Wickham-Watson: 21-14, 21-13.
