Marian Academy successfully hosts Invitational Tennis Tournament

Marian Academy’s Fourth Form Physical Education CSEC Students successfully hosted an Invitational Lawn Tennis Tournament on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the school’s tennis court on Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown.
The Tournament is a School-Based Assignment (SBA) Class Project for students preparing for the 2023 examination. The event was declared open by the school’s Principal, Sister Marie Harper, OSU, who congratulated the students on their hard work during the planning stages of the Project; in particular the preparation of the tennis court. She also expressed confidence in the Project being a success. The Tournament was divided into two categories – male and female, and was played under a knockout format with most of the players coming from Marian Academy.

Matches played in the tournament
The female category
1. First match started at 13:40h. Akila Mendonca and Jaquiza Chase were called to the court. Jaquiza won the match: 10-7.
2. Second match started at 13:53h. Monisha Persaud and Kezia Luke were called to the court. Monisha won the second match 10-7.
3. Third match started at 14:05h. Saskia Persaud and Jaquiza Chase were called to the court. Saskia won the third match 10-2.
4. Finals for the females started at 14:12h. Monisha Persaud and Saskia Persaud were called to the court. Saskia won the final match against Monisha 10-4.
5. Tie breaker for third place. Kezia Luke and Jaquiza Chase were called to the court. Kezia won the tie-breaker match against Jaquiza 7-1.
The female category was wrapped up with the top three winners
– Saskia Persaud placed first.
–  Monisha Persaud placed second.
– Kezia Luke placed third.

The male category
1. First match started at 14:30h. Anish Sharma and Jonathan Robinson were called to the court. Anish won the first match 7-0.
2. Second match started at 14:35h. Ridwon Kasim and Zico were called to the court. Ridwon won the second match 7-3.
3. Tie breaker for third place started at 14:45h. Jonathon and Zico were called to the court. Jonathan won the tie breaker for third place against Zico 7-1.
4. Final match started at 14:50h. Anish and Rodwin were called to the court. Anish won against Rodwin 7-3.
The male category was wrapped up with the top three winners
– Anish Sharma placed first
– Ridwon Kasim placed second
– Jonathan Robinson placed third
The winners received prizes at a presentation ceremony at the conclusion of the event. The prizes were first-, second-, and third-place medals.
