Marks enthused at bodybuilding prospects

President of the Guyana Amateur Body Building Federation (GABBF) in his reflection of the recent novices championships contended the sport has a bright future ahead.
Marks felt the growth though minimal still sends a strong signal the future is promising after witnessing the Championships on Sunday at the National Cultural centre.

“The patrons got their money’s worth. We had a limitation in athletes in the body building categories but we saw more men’s Physique and Ms Bikini which shows the direction where the sport is going but we certainly hit our mark in terms of patronage”, he told this publication on Tuesday.

The night saw Space Gym’s Tariq Dakhil claim the Mr Physique title while gym mate Diciula DeSouza was crowned Ms. Bikini. From a competitors standpoint Marks noted there was great improvement in some categories and hoped to see the continued growth of women in the sport.
“Ms Bikini and Men’s Physique are the more attainable body types and are more main stream. Our goals I this year is to draw more female participation”.
The next agenda for the federation will be their flagship seniors which will be held on July 15 at the Marriott Hotel and the President revealed they will work acidulously to improve incentives for athletes. Last year over $1,000,000 was awarded to top performers.
