Eight of Guyana’s most talented teenage girls took to the stage of the National Cultural Centre on Saturday evening last as they competed for the coveted crown of Miss Guyana Talented Teen 2016.
At the end, Aliya Wong proved to be the best of the lot as she got the judges nod for the title, with Jerusha Farrell and Ayana Glasgow gaining the first and second runners-up positions respectively.
The delegates who contested the pageant were Ahiesha Antoo, Anicia Wiliams, Annastacia Boyal, Naiome Bacchus, Ayana Glasgow, Aliya Wong, Geetanjali Nauth and Jerusha Farrell.
The girls competed in introduction, talent and evening gown segments. The pageant is in its 16th year and was dubbed ‘Sweet Sixteen’ as it was being held for the first time under a new franchise holder, Wasim Khan ,under the name “The Imperial House’.
However, the elated crowned queen told Guyana Times Entertainment that she was proud of herself since she put a lot of work into the pageant.
“I wanted this so bad so I know that I pushed myself – late nights training, rehearsals by myself…”. The teenager who is also a 2nd Dan black belt noted that the experience was an amazing one.
“It was an amazing learning experience, basically we just had fun in everything that we did but at the same time, we know when to be focused and bring our A Game.”
She encouraged other girls who have an interest in entering a pageant to “be yourself” and to “be confident”. “It’s all about confidence and self-love and the best persons to be is you. It is an amazing experience when it comes to pageantry because it opens a lot of doors to opportunities.”
