Mash band ready to take the streets by storm tomorrow
In a matter of hours, Guyana will celebrate its 48th Republic Anniversary with its annual costume and float parade in its capital city, Georgetown. This year, the celebration is expected to be grand with over 23 floats already registered to participate.

One such is the collaboration between Guyana Telephone Telegraph and Pulse Entertainment. On Tuesday, Guyana Times took its camera to the Pulse/GTT mash camp where the final touches on the costumes are being added.
Guyanese are poised to enjoy a ‘cloud nine’ experience with GTT and Pulse Entertainment since the duo has promised to deliver an electrifying atmosphere on Mashramani Day.
While there, Guyanese Designer, Olympia Small-Sonoram was seen busily making sure the outfits are in order and ready. They are expecting over 300 revellers on the streets on Mash Day.
In addition, several Government Ministries have already launched their bands and ready to storm the streets of Georgetown.
Another band that will be partaking is the Department of Culture, Youth and Sport which falls under social cohesion within the Ministry of the Presidency. The department launched its band on Monday last.

The band will be boasting some 300 plus costumes and revellers. The Ministry’s Mash band takes on the look and feel of ‘everything Guyanese’ by utilising only the colours of the Golden Arrowhead and costume decorations utilising representations of the Cacique Crown and the Victoria Regia Lily.
Meanwhile, the floats for the King and Queen of the band are decorated with the popular Hibiscus flower; the country’s national bird – the Canje Pheasant – and several butterflies, birds and frogs.
On Mash day, the revellers will assemble on Thomas Lands, West of Albert Street, then proceed on to the first judging point at the National Park then the parade will move East along Thomas Lands, then South into Vlissengen road and make their way into D’Urban Park for final judging. “Let’s cooperate and celebrate Republic 48”.
