A 25-year-old unemployed man from Reliance village on the Essequibo Coast is presently in Police custody assisting with investigations of an alleged armed robbery, which took place early Sunday morning at Onderneeming Sandpit in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
According to information received, the alleged robbery occurred around 3:30h on April 9. Information reaching Guyana Times revealed that a 37-year-old security guard and his wife were terrorised and robbed at gunpoint by three masked men.
Simman Rodrigues was robbed of $3000 cash, one tablet valued $18,000 and four cellular phones valued $103,000.
Rodrigues said he and his wife retired to bed around 20:00h on Saturday, but were rudely awakened by a loud sound coming from one of their rooms. They were then confronted by two masked men, one of whom placed a handgun to Rodrigues’ head and demanded gold and cash. The other bandit used a knife to threaten Rodrigues’ wife. A third bandit was said to be waiting in the yard.
The incident was reported to the Suddie Police Station. A suspect has been arrested as investigations continue.
