Masked gunmen terrorise Good Hope family during home invasion

One day after robbing a 49-year-old Plantation Good Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) resident, five persons suspected of being involved in committing the crime were arrested.

Based on reports received, on Monday at about 03:45h, the victim was at home with his wife and two daughters when seven masked males, armed with firearms, cutlasses, and knives, arrived at their premises.
The suspects allegedly struck the front door, and shortly after, loud explosions, suspected to be gunshots, were heard. The suspects then made their way into the house. During the ordeal, the victim, his wife, and one of his daughters were assaulted.
The suspects then ransacked the house and relieved the family of a quantity of jewellery, two cell phones, cash, and personal documents.
Police stated that the victim later managed to escape and report the matter to the Police. The injured victims were escorted to the Enmore Regional Hospital for medical examination.
However, based on intelligence, detectives went to Phase Two, Good Hope, ECD, on Tuesday and conducted a search on a property, during which two .32 pistols were recovered in a blue cookie tin.
In addition, a 21-year-old labourer and a 33-year-old taxi driver, both from the Good Hope Squatting Area, ECD, were taken into custody. Further investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects. The five men remain in custody and are assisting with investigations.
