Mason pleads not guilty to larceny

A mason, of West La Penitence, Georgetown, was remanded to prison after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of larceny when it was read to him by city Magistrate Judy Latchman on Monday morning.

It is alleged that Leon Murray, 30, on December 26, 2017, at Castello Housing Scheme, Georgetown, stole from Virtual Complainant (VC), Shawn Solomon, two gold chains valued $115,000, two gold rings valued $120,000 and bangles worth $15,000, a total value of $250,000.

The defendant, who sobbed in the prisoners’ dock, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.

The prosecution successfully objected to bail, citing the penalty attached to the crime and the bleak possibility of the defendant not returning to court should bail be granted.

The matter was adjourned to March 20, 2017. Murray will remain on remand at the Camp Street penitentiary until then.
