Massy Guyana advocates for suicide prevention, mental health awareness

World Suicide Prevention Day will be celebrated on September 10 under the theme ‘Creating Hope Through Action’, and, as such, the Massy Group in Guyana continues on its journey to target youths and young adults in its suicide prevention and mental health awareness programmes.
The programmes are tailored to provide assistance and hope for persons dealing with mental and emotional struggles.
In support of World Suicide Prevention and World Mental Health Day, more than 800 Massy employees will be adorned with yellow and green to show solidarity.
Additionally, the Group would host a Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Poetry Competition from September 1 to October 10, in collaboration with the Health Ministry’s Mental Health Unit. It would target persons between the ages of 11 and 35. The competition would also be open to employees of the Massy Guyana Group, and monetary prizes would be given to first and second place winners in two categories.
The Massy Group encourages everyone to educate themselves on the telltale signs of suicide, with the intention of reaching out and assisting.
The public is also encouraged to call the lifelines: 223-0001, 223-0009, 600-7896, or 623-4444 if they know anyone who may have intention to commit suicide.
