Massy Industries on board YWCC Mash Cup

Massy Industries joined the list of sponsors for the Young Warriors Cricket Club fund raiser, Mash Cup 2017. This is the fourth edition of the highly anticipated tournament which will be held on April 30, at the Cumberland Cricket Ground in East Canje, Berbice.

A release from the Cumberland based cricket club said that the tournament was originally fixed for the traditional Mash day but due to the rainy season, it was postponed to April 9. However, that date would have clashed with the Pakistan tour to Guyana thus the further postponement.
Information coming out of the East Canje area is that the interest of thae public is gaining momentum and they are looking forward for this annual mega event. Proceeds from this event runs the clubs cricket programs. Donations are also made to religious and educational organisations as part of the club’s policy towards community development. Betsy Ground Triple Stars are the defending champions.
It is expected that a number of teams from the East Canje area will compete in the action packed five overs aside cricket competition for prize monies of over $100,000.00. Two top Masters softball teams in Guyana are expected to do battle in a 15 overs aside feature game. There will be added attractions for the kids and the entire family. Live musical entertainment and a well stocked bar will be there.  At the presentation ceremony, Mark Roopnarine, Manager of the Massy Industries Berbice Branch said his company is he once again please to be part of this event. He said that his company understands its role as a good Corporate Citizen. He continued to by saying that he has been following the progress of the club over the years and is impressed with the amount of players coming out of the system, highlighting that the recent West Indies World Cup under 19 cricketer Shimron Hetmyer is a perfect example. In response, Rafeek Kassim, newly elected President of the club was thankful for the support and promised that the event will be well run and provide fun and entertainment for the entire family. He said that the large trophy provided will be used as incentive for the competition, eliminating some cost. He added that YWCC will continue to provide opportunities for the young boys and eventually girls in the East Canje area.
The club has announced that it will be holding a three day cricket clinic that will run from Wednesday April 19 to Friday April 21 for all cricketers who are 19 years old and below. All players are urged to take advantage of this opportunity for there is no cost attached. The clinic will be conducted by national coach Julian Moore and be held at the Cumberland ground.  Interested persons can contact the club executives 327-7585, 612-0944 per 332-0476. Meanwhile, the club takes this opportunity to congratulate their prolific opening batsman Shimron Hetmyer for his selection on the West Indies senior team to face Pakistan in the three Test series in the Caribbean beginning on Friday in Jamaica.
