Matthews, Dottin are heavyweights!

CWI Women’s T20 Blaze…

It was fitting for the Barbadians to capture the major awards in the T20 Blaze tournament. After the fifth and final round match at the National Stadium Providence, the award ceremony took place. Barbados captain, Hayley Matthews finished as the leading wicket-taker with 11 wickets and 166 runs with the bat earned her the best all-rounder.

Matthews’s batting average was 40.75 with a strike rate of 130.4 hitting one half-century while her 11 wickets came at a bowling average of 10.55 and an economy rate of 5.8.
Deandra Dottin reigned supreme with the bat, finishing as the highest run-getter with 222 runs in her dominant performance. Dottin finished with an average of 222 striking at 180.49 in her fruitful T20 Blaze season, where she scored two half-centuries.
In contention for most runs was Stacy Ann King who scored 183 runs for Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana’s Shemaine Campbelle who accumulated 165 runs.

In the bowling department, after Matthew’s 11 wickets, Erva Giddings had 10 wickets, after she finished with 10 wickets in the Super50 format. For the Guyanese, Sheneta Grimmond finished with seven wickets while Akaze Thomson had six wickets.
Jamaican off-spinner, Vanessa Watts had seven wickets rounding off the top three bowlers in the T20 Blaze tournaments.
After finishing with the most dismissals in the Super50, Kycia Knight was in the run for most dismissals but Leeward Island’s Terez Parker who finished with the most. In the field, Sheamine Campbelle among three others were awarded for best fielders. The second position team was yet to be determined with Guyana and Jamaica vying for the position with nine pints each but Guyana has won head-to-head.

The tournament was hailed a success especially for the Barbadians who won all ten matches in both Super50 and T20 Blaze. (Brandon Corlette)
