“Mayor and City Council needs to do their job” – Edghill
Public Works Minister, Juan Edghill on Tuesday called on the Georgetown Mayor and City Council to fulfil its duties to taxpayers. His call for the M&CC to stop neglecting its duties came after vendors complained bitterly of the perils of flooding, clogged drains and a broken valve which results in wastage of water and also contributes to flooding.
In response, Edghill instructed the Special Projects Unit with the Public Works Ministry to intervene and conduct the maintenance works.
“Mayor and City Council needs to do their job. They are collecting revenue and are not functioning as they should, especially in the markets. What are they doing with taxpayers’ money? We are doing Albouystown and other projects already on their behalf presently,” the Minister is quoted as saying in a press release from the Ministry.
Edghill also conducted a visit to the Transport and Harbour’s wharf in Water Street, Georgetown, where he urged the ground staff to enforce the wearing of masks and social distancing. He also inspected a new generator ready to sail to Region One (Barima-Waini).
