Reports are the injured man was socialising with a friends when the suspect reportedly attempted to relieve him of a chain he was wearing. This however did not go as planned as Mittelholzer put up a fight during which the alleged robber whipped out a gun and discharged a round hitting him to the abdomen.

When contacted, Mayor Chase Green told Guyana Times that her son went with some friends to celebrate his birthday at a popular bar on the West Bank of Demerara when he got involved in a scuffle with a man, who attempted to relieve him of a chain and was shot.

She noted that her son underwent emergency surgery and is listed in a stable condition. The father of three was celebrating his 46th birthday, the Mayor stated. However, her son is holding out that it was a robbery but eyewitnesses believed that the two men might have known each other based on their reaction at first sight.

“When they see one another, they walked towards each other and a scramble start… next thing you hear was “bam” and the crowd scatter… when we look, red man fall to the ground and the other man run away,” one eyewitness told Guyana Times.

The Police are yet to arrest the shooter as investigations continue.
