McSween dominates as Guyana Harpy Eagles trail Volcanoes

Left-arm fast bowler and number 10 batsman Preston McSween was the star of day two at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, as Windward Islands Volcanoes maintained control against Guyana Harpy Eagles in the opening fixture of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Four-Day Championships.
At stumps, Harpy Eagles were 181-5, trailing by 158 runs. Vishaul Singh is unbeaten on 40 while Keemo Paul is on 20.

Preston McSween and Sherman Lewis

Earlier, Volcanoes resumed the day on 277-9, the final-wicket pair of McSween and Sherman Lewis adding 124 runs to propel the Volcanoes to 339 after 106.2 overs. McSween struck nine fours and two sixes in his 86. His fellow pacer, Lewis made 31 from 111 balls. On the first day, Alick Athanaze made 68 while Devon Smith struck 52.
Gudakesh Motie was the pick of the bowlers with 4-62 from 26.2 overs which included nine maidens. Veerasammy Permaul had 3-88 and Paul had 3-84.
In response, Eagles lost Chandrapaul Hemraj cheaply for five at 10-1, but Shimron Hetmyer and Tagenarine Chanderpaul joined forces and added 48 runs together. Then, Hetmyer, who struck three fours in his 24 from 37 balls, flicked one to short mid-wicket and was brilliantly taken.

Shamar Springer scored a half-century for Barbados

The young Chanderpaul made 30 from 58 balls, with six fours while Captain Leon Johnson played some positive shots and added 32 runs with his former school-mate, Vishaul Singh. Johnson was bowled all ends up by McSween at 95-4. Johnson scored 28 from 37 balls, which was decorated with five fours.
Wicket-keeper Anthony Bramble looked his usual attacking mode, but his promising knock ended when he was trapped by Lewis at 141-5. Bramble faced 38 balls for his 26, which had one six and three fours. Singh stood tall with his unbeaten 40, batting for 93 balls and striking four boundaries. Paul was aggressive in his 20 from 26 balls, which had two fours and one six.
Play on the third day is set to begin 10:00h Eastern Caribbean time today at Queen’s Park Oval.
